Feldenkrais

Feldenkrais is a body oriented work in which the student is learning new sequences of movement. It is named after its founder, the Israelic physisist Dr. Moshé Feldenkrais.

Often we act in every day life out of habits without knowing exactly what we are really doing with ourself and our body. This is not always good or the best choice for us and our body. Pain may develop and helpful potentials may remain unused.

Feldenkrais work supports to increase posture, coordination, perception and flexibility of the body. In addition it helps to let go old disadvantegeous and probably as well painful habits and sequences of movement and replace them by new, easier and more efficient ones.

Feldenkrais work provides relaxing and regenerating effects. It looses tenseness and works in a positive way on the Psyche and the mental and emotional well-being. It helps to show new ways to move through life with more lightness, body consciousness and more joy.

Feldenkrais is taught in single sessions in “Functional Integration“ (FI) or in groups as “Awareness through Movement“ (ATM). In both ways a possibility is provided for the student to gain more experience about himself, his physical habits and patterns of movement. Often we use unnecessary amounts of energy for small or usual activities and movements in our daily life which consciously or unconsciously can be uncomfortable or painful. By slow and conscious movements we may become aware of what we are really doing with us and our body and what kind of effects this has on our movements

In single work the student gets to know new, alternative, easier and more effective possibilities of movements with which he can substitute old, heavy and sometimes also painful patterns. Thus he gains the chance to go through life with body consciousness, trust and joy.

In group work the student can discover his present patterns and sequences of movement in slowly guided lessons and he can try s.th. new.

Old patterns to move can be substituted by new, more efficient and comfortable movements.

This work is suitable for people of all age, from babyhood to very old age, for beginners as well as for advanced.

It is helpful for people who have problems with their backs, their shoulders, knees, necks or their postures or tenseness.

As well feldenkrais is helpful for those who want to improve their (fine) motor activity or body posture.
